| Prepare for Back-to-School. Make sure your children's school has current emergency contact numbers for you, your spouse and for a trusted friend or relative should you be unable to pick up your child in an emergency. During an emergency, you may be stuck in your vehicle trying to get to school, or you may be taking your child or children to a shelter. This is why you should have a small auto survival kit in your car at all times. Don't forget to prepare your college age children as they head off to school as well. They need to know the name and phone number of your family's out-of-state emergency contact, so they can report their status during an emergency. They should also have a small fanny pack of emergency supplies should they need to shelter-in-place or evacuate their dorm or apartment. |
